Wicked Wonderland Costume Contest

Wicked Wonderland Costume Contest

Hello to all you risqué revelers! It has been our experience, in previous years, that you all love a costume contest. And who are we to deny you what you love? In honor of our return to the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, and it being Halloween night, we decided that a Wicked Wonderland Costume Contest was in order.

The Order of Events

So here is how the night will go! Registration for the costume contest will be from when our doors open to 8:45 PM. No late entries allowed, darlings, so keep an eye on your watch and hop to it! When you register, you will register for ONE of the following categories:

Darling of the Court

(Most on Theme)

Best Tea Party

(Best Group Costume)

The Carpenter’s Favorite Oyster

(Most Technical Skill)

The Queen’s Paramour

(Sexiest)

The Cheshire’s Smile

(Best incorporation of a KN95 mask)

We will need your name, a brief title or description of your costume, and a phone number for coordination in case you win. Once registered, you will have a moment to pose before the Queen’s Court, who will judge your ensemble based on Originality, Theme, Skill, and Overall Presentation.

At 9:00 PM you will be asked to gather in front of the stage. We will have a clear place for you to assemble in your category. Then it’s time to walk the runway! Give us your best strut, darlings, and let the party see you! It’s your time to shine!

The winners will be announced after everyone has had their moment in the spotlight. And then you still have the party to enjoy!

The Queen’s Court

Let’s meet the discerning individuals who will be sitting in judgement over the evening’s activities.

Judas St. James

Judas St. James

Crowned Seattle’s Queer Monarch 2022, Judas Saint James is a PNW based burlesque performer and lover of the erotic arts. As a performer, teacher and occasional muse, Judas has spent the last 5 years in the Washington performance scene bringing awareness to BIPOC alternative queer culture and seeking to help marginalized people see their true internal divinity through the mediums of burlesque, storytelling and fashion.

Kyra Stewart

Kyra Stewart

Kyra Stewart is the founder of A Masquerade Costume, an independent supplier of theatrical quality costumes, art masks and special effects makeup, open year-round since 1999. She launched the business from a private collection of stage worn costumes, vintage clothing and original wearable art pieces, that she had been schlepping around her entire life. This is how Kyra socializes, by “playing dress up” with others, everyone creating their own look from the collection. As a little girl, she voiced a dream to “someday” live in a costume shop, later changing the language to working in one, morphing even later to owning one. Finally, with a push from her fiancé in 1999, they decided “today is the day.” The business model includes buy-sell-trade-rent, so the catalogue is always changing. You are cordially invited to come to the shop and play with your own radical self expression. Feel free to bring your own ideas and/or pieces with you, to create your original looks with some of Kyra’s collection.

Drea Talley

Drea Talley is a bi femme Struggling Writer™ and Chaotic Good bard. The kind of bard that tells stories and sings, but doesn’t play an instrument because she gave up on the piano, was never good at the flute, and the guitar hurt her fingers. She writes all manner of fantasy, and may have a totally-not-made-up-evil-twin that produces some fairly spicy stories. A background in the performing arts, with an emphasis on theater and music, Drea is long familiar with the impact of a good costume. She is also pro-glitter, and ready to defend this controversial stance, even if it never comes out of your carpets.

The Court (and the rest of us!) are very excited to see what you have in store for them. The Wicked Wonderland Costume Contest, and so much more, awaits! We’ll see you on Halloween!
